Soda Blasting

One thing that I did not talk about that is revealed in this email is the project budget. Based on the cursory review of the car when MMC came to my house and our extensive discussion on what I envision the Olds to be once restored, I agreed with them of a budget of around $30K to $50K. This will become just a fraction of what she will end of costing me at the end.

I received an update early May on the findings after soda blasting the Olds. There were rust rot beyond repair and 30+ years of bondo/mud and the likes, meant a lot of more work to come.

“All of the white and/or greenish color is body filler – “mud” that was applied to the car over its life. Perhaps the biggest surprise was the corner of the doors. We did not expect to find the corners shot. It happens that the damage could not be in a worse place. Mush tougher fix, if fixable at all. Now we need to decide whether to buy good used doors, or attempt a fix. We did the hood, both doors, and the quarters of the car. We already know the fenders are very, very poor, (perhaps not worth attempting a repair) and the trunk lid is junk.”
