November 2011 Update

I let Rick focus once again on his craft as he reassembled the Olds so that it can be sent out for the interior, convertible top and electrical work.

One of the areas that really confused us was the rear end. It had no markings, Rick could figure out the gearing ratio. He truly believes that it was a truck rear end and not and Olds. So prior to November 2011, we discussed what we should do for the rear. I could easily have the existing rear reconditioned and ready to be fit back in. However, I wanted a 3.55:1 easy cruising rear end with 12-bolts. We finally settled on one from Moser Engineering. We ordered a 12-bolt, 3.55:1 Ratio Pro/Street setup.

Rick was busy at the same time getting the engine on the frame, connecting the Muncie M-22 and measuring out to order a custom lightweight driveshaft. He also connected the Hurst shifter and test fitted it on the body.

MMC received the custom Coker rims and were busy getting those in place.

The W-30 OAI was being worked in at the same time. This will take some custom fabrication to get through the red plastic wheel housing covers.

The MSD electronic ignition system was fitted in and ready for firing up the 455ci once everything else took shape.

“Rick fired the engine just a few seconds to check wiring, ignition, and spark. Fired right up!!”

The fabricator came in on 30 November 2011 to measure out for the new aluminum driveshaft.

Gas tank was sent out for powder coating and the high torque starter was installed.

“After the driveshaft is in, Rick will hang the rear bumper so the custom exhaust can be fabricated and place the exhaust trumpet ends correctly. Hope to get the car to the exhaust shop in PA late next week. Usually takes about a full day at the exhaust shop. Rick said you and he have discussed the exhaust system and he knows what you want. Rick will have the engine running and breaking it in very soon once the exhaust is on. I will shoot some video when that happens. That is always a great moment when they come to life for the first time.

“Next will be the A/C unit installation under the dash with the lines run into the engine bay A/C compressor. Rick will soon be installing the heat/sound matting on the floor of the car. The gauges and dash pad will follow.”

Yes, you got to love progress!
